Nearly immediately after Woods of Ypres\u2019 frontman David Gold<\/a> passed away in December, fans, friends and other bands started discussing ways to pay tribute to his life and music. Two of the most discussed ideas were a concert and an album covering Woods of Ypres\u2019 songs. In April the latter of the two came to life through a pair of shows in Toronto and David\u2019s home town of Sault Ste Marie. Now I\u2019m excited to hear news that the album is coming together as well.<\/p>\n

Spearheaded by Steph LeDrew, A Heart of Gold : A Tribute to Woods of Ypres<\/em> will consist of twenty-two different bands\/artists covering songs spanning the entire Woods of Ypres\u2019 discography. Some notable mentions include Gypsy Chief Goliath<\/a>, Novembers Doom<\/a> and Woods of Ypres\u2019 alum Joel Violette<\/a> and Rae Amitay<\/a> who will be covering \u201cSilver\u201d<\/a> from the band\u2019s final recording Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light<\/em><\/a> which was released earlier this year. The albums’ artwork was created by the talented Jason Hicks.<\/p>\n

The album is tentatively scheduled to be released in late August\/early September. There has been talk of some CD\/shirt package deals available. Putting the album out on vinyl has also been mentioned, but due to the costs involved that is still up in the air.<\/p>\n
