Sometimes what\u2019s in my head is pretty close to how the bands actually sound. Other times I\u2019m way off.<\/p>\n<p>One example of where I was way off is <a title=\"My Bloody Valentine\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/My_Bloody_Valentine_%28band%29\">My Bloody Valentine<\/a>. I\u2019ve heard lots about them over the years, but it was quite some time before I actually checked out their acclaimed <a title=\"My Bloody Valentine - Loveless\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Loveless_%28album%29\"><em>Loveless<\/em><\/a> album. I wouldn\u2019t say I didn\u2019t like what I heard, but it was definitely quite different than what I was expecting.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to listening to My Bloody Valentine I constantly would listen to new artists and think to myself, \u201cI bet this was influenced by My Bloody Valentine.\u201d A statement purely driven by what I assumed My Bloody Valentine would sound like. I know &#8211; kind of a backwards system. But it still led me to discovering some great music and influencing the direction of this podcast along the way.<\/p>\n<p>The first time I came across something that appeared to have a strong MBV influence was <a title=\"Year of No Light\" href=\"http:\/\/yearofnolight.free.fr\/\">Year of No Light\u2019s<\/a> stunning <a title=\"Year of No Light - Ausserwelt\" href=\"http:\/\/yearofnolight.bandcamp.com\/album\/ausserwelt\"><em>Ausserwelt<\/em><\/a> album. I was a fan of the band after hearing their previous release <a title=\"Year of No Light - Nord\" href=\"http:\/\/yearofnolight.bandcamp.com\/album\/nord-deluxe-edition\"><em>Nord<\/em><\/a>, but was floored after hearing <em>Ausserwelt<\/em>. In fact <em>Ausserwelt<\/em> alone would be the springboard that pushed me in the direction of this podcast as well as looking for more artists exploring similar territory. Because of this it only seemed natural to bookend the podcast with two tracks from <em>Ausserwelt<\/em> &#8211; <a title=\"Year of No Light - \u201cPers\u00e9phone I\u201d\" href=\"http:\/\/yearofnolight.bandcamp.com\/track\/pers-phone-enna\">\u201cPers\u00e9phone I\u201d<\/a> and <a title=\"Year of No Light - &quot;Abbesse&quot;\" href=\"http:\/\/yearofnolight.bandcamp.com\/track\/abbesse\">\u201cAbbesse\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not all of the tracks in this podcast are cut from the same cloth, but if you\u2019ve seen my tweets while I was editing it, you would have seen my drop terms like feedback, darkwave, blastbeats and shimmering riffs. All of which creates the common thread that ties these songs and artists together. I hope you enjoy this one.
