Despite my brain being burnt out after just finishing off my top 20 albums of 2014 post, it seemed like a good idea to come back for another round. However this time things will be a bit more to the point. No rambling. Just 10 songs you need to hear. Enjoy.
- The Atlas Moth “The Sea Beyond”
- The Picturebooks “Your Kisses Burn Like Fire”
- Brian Byrne “Arizona (I Miss You Most)”
- Death From Above 1979 “Trainwreck 1979″
- The Glorious Rebellion “My Resume is a Suicide Note”
- Boris – “Angel”
- DZ Deathrays “Northern Lights”

- Drones of North America “Exit Through the End”
- The Oath “Night Child”
Hey Ryan!
I work with Jaak Sildoja(Darcy’s husband) and we both like music outside of the mainstream! I listen to all genres of music but I have become overwhelmed by the huge amount of music available these days.
I have a tendency to go for black ambient atmospheric metal. You mentioned the band Atlas Moth in your best songs 2014 list! I never thought I would cross paths with someone that knows of Atlas Moth! Jaak really surprised me last week when he disclosed the fact that he liked atmospheric metal also! He mentioned your name and gave me your URL.
I love the folk metal band AGALLOCH (hard to pin them down to a dedicated genre). I think their second album THE MANTLE is a tremendous piece of work. OPETH(saw them live in Halifax a couple of years ago), ANATHEMA, IHSAHN ( formally of EMPEROR), STEVEN WILSON (genius), NEGURA BUNGET (OM album is awesome), CLANDESTINE BLAZE, ALDA, and too many to mention!
One of the best sites for atmospheric is:

Stay cool Ryan!

Hey Steve! Thanks for checking out the site and posting. Jaak had mentioned he has a friend that was into a lot of the same stuff I was. It’s cool you’re into the Atlas Moth. They’re a great band. I saw them in Buffalo last summer with SubRosa and Boris. They were killer live. It was one of the best shows I’ve been to.
I love Agalloch and I’m familiar with Alda as well. Tahoma was a great album and I’ve heard good stuff about the new one (Passage). On the black metal side of things I like lots of styles. But listen quite a bit to stuff like Altar of Plauges, Oranssi Pazuzu, Vattnet Viskar, Woods of Desolation, etc. I’m big on the post/psychedelic BM styles. I like quite a bit of other stuff as well, which you can get a pretty good idea of based on my year end lists and podcasts.
Anyway, thanks again for checking out the website and it’s nice to know there’s someone else out there who enjoys this stuff!
